Story

Built on trust, rooted in North Queensland

Q.I.T.E. — Quality Impact Through Employment — was founded on the belief that meaningful employment changes lives. What started as a small community initiative has grown into one of North Queensland’s most experienced and respected employment services organisations. We’ve supported thousands of people into work, partnered with hundreds of local businesses, and contributed to the communities we call home, all while staying true to our founding values.

Work

How we work and why it matters

We’re not a tick-box service. When someone walks through our door, we take the time to understand their situation, their goals, and what they need to succeed. The same goes for employers, we get to know your business before we make a single recommendation. This approach takes more effort, but it produces better outcomes. And better outcomes are why we exist.

Our approach is built around three commitments:

  • Person before profit: Our clients’ outcomes drive everything we do. We’re not chasing numbers; we’re building futures.

  • Community first: We reinvest in the communities we serve, supporting local programs, initiatives, and employers.

  • Local knowledge: We know North Queensland because we live here. That local expertise sets us apart from national providers.

Our Story

From a community-led idea to a regional organisation supporting employers, job seekers, and families across North Queensland.

1987

Founded in Mareeba

A community response

A group of local citizens established Mareeba Shire Job Training Association to support young people under the Federal Government's Community Youth Support Scheme.

1996–1998

Becoming Q.I.T.E.

A name that reflects a mission

Through funding changes that tested the team — and a pay cut everyone accepted to keep the doors open — the organisation evolved into Quality Innovation Training and Employment, shifting from training into full employment services.

1998

Winning the Tablelands

The major Job Network contract

Q.I.T.E. secured the flagship Job Network contract across the Tablelands, delivering job matching, training, and intensive support from Mareeba, Atherton, and Ravenshoe.

2017–2018

30 years and still growing

A milestone and new commitments

Q.I.T.E. marked three decades of service and secured a Disability Employment Services contract, broadening support to people with disability across the region.

2007–2008

Expanding into Cairns

A regional footprint takes shape

A change of Federal Government triggered an overhaul of employment services. Q.I.T.E. expanded into Cairns, Mossman, and Innisfail — and celebrated 21 years of operation.

2022

Pivoting to Townsville

Resilience in the face of setbacks

After an unsuccessful Cairns tender led to difficult redundancies, Q.I.T.E. moved quickly — securing a new Workforce Australia contract for the Townsville and Mount Isa area and opening offices across a new region.

Today

People-first and future-focused

Still community-led

Q.I.T.E. continues to deliver employment services, community support, and early childhood care across North Queensland — driven by the same locally-rooted, not-for-profit values it was founded on.

2009

QT's Early Learning Centre

More than employment services

Q.I.T.E. opened a long-hours day care centre in Mareeba. It now operates at over 95% capacity as a self-sufficient social enterprise — a testament to the organisation's community-first model.

Recognised for quality

We hold the certifications and accreditations that reflect our commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement.

Childcare Support

QT’s Early Learning Centre

A warm, nurturing place to learn, grow, and belong — right in the heart of Mareeba. QT’s Early Learning Centre has been caring for North Queensland’s youngest community members since 2009.
